The Wheel of Time is gearing up

The Wheel of Time is gearing up for its highly anticipated third season, and fans can expect nothing short of groundbreaking television when the adaptation of Robert Jordan’s beloved fantasy series returns to Prime Video.

During a recent chat at the Deadline Studio as part of the Prime Experience, executive producer Rafe Judkins, along with stars Rosamund Pike and Daniel Henney, and the creative team, shared some exciting insights into what viewers can look forward to in the upcoming season.

According to Judkins, the first 15 minutes of Season 3 will feature one of the most jaw-dropping set pieces ever seen on television. “I was just watching it this week and it is absolutely bananas what our team pulled off … just a bunch of women in their 40s and 50s shredding each other, and it is wonderful to behold.”

Since its debut in 2021, The Wheel of Time has captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences worldwide. The series follows Moiraine Damodred (played by Pike), a powerful member of an organization in search of the reincarnation of the Dragon, an individual who could either save the world or lead to its destruction.

A central focus of the show is the complex relationship between Moiraine and her protector, Lan Mandragoran (played by Henney). As the series progresses, their dynamic evolves, presenting viewers with a deeply engaging narrative filled with twists and turns.

In Season 2, one of the most memorable moments occurred during a breathtaking beach scene shot in Morocco’s Dakhla. Henney recalls the experience, saying, “It was insane. They cleaned this beautiful beach up. We had this amazing sunset, and we were shooting the scene that we rehearsed in her hotel. We kind of came up with the beats of how we were going to rebond with the help of her amazing movement coach.”

Pike added, “The Wheel of Time never does anything easy. Dakhla lies in a place where people have never shot before. There’s no infrastructure for filming. It’s a place where the tide is whimsical and difficult and might give you something spectacular or it might just not cooperate.”

Despite the challenges, the team persevered, capturing a truly remarkable moment on screen. “On that day, the tide did this spectacular thing, which is to encircle this white sand dune in a completely different color from the rest of the sand around it,” Pike explained. “It looms white as a sort of beautiful humpback whale in the middle of the desert. And we got it. It was one of those moments, which we have had many on the last season too, where you think there’s some kind of Godly work going on.”

With promises of even more spectacular moments to come in Season 3, The Wheel of Time is poised to deliver an unforgettable viewing experience, pushing the boundaries of television storytelling like never before.
